Bitcoin Changes You (And the Data Proves It)

The longer you’re in Bitcoin the less emotionally reactive you become, and it shows up clearly in sentiment data.

What is sentiment volatility and why does it matter?

It’s basically just how much someone’s mood swings over time. And what I’ve been noticing is that those swings are way bigger when people are newer to Bitcoin.

Early on, you see huge spikes in optimism, confusion, all of it. Then over time, it starts to level out.

You can see this with people who’ve been around a while. Big swings in earlier years, then much more muted over time. Still reacting to major moments, but not nearly as extreme.

I thought maybe this was just a few examples, but when I looked across a bigger group of Bitcoin users, it’s pretty consistent.

Sentiment just gets less volatile the longer someone’s been around.

And it’s not just optimism either. Same thing shows up in confusion, sadness, even gratitude. Early on it’s all over the place, then it settles down.

The easy answer is that Bitcoin itself is less volatile now. That’s probably part of it, but it doesn’t fully explain it. We’ve still had some pretty crazy periods, and the reactions just aren’t as extreme as they used to be.

So the takeaway for me is pretty simple.

Over time, you just get less reactive.

The narratives don’t hit as hard.

You’ve seen it before.

I’m not trying to trade on this or predict anything. I just think it’s useful to know when sentiment is getting out of hand, and whether you’re getting pulled into it.
